QMEX Metallurgists are material scientists who specialize in lightweight metals aluminum, titanium, and high strength steel. We work and think innovatively with alloys – two or more metallic elements combined - to create materials with specific desirable and sustainable properties for varied high-tech applications.
Our Metallurgists deal with processing high-performance lightweight metals and examine the performance of metals and determine which ones can be put to which uses.
QMEX Chemical metallurgists monitor metal corrosion and develop ways to strengthen metals. We have wide range knowledge of corrosion protection coatings, and we also perform chemical tests in order to make sure that alloys meet specifications, such as DIN, AISI and AMS and quality standards, such as ISO, ASTM and SAE.
QMEX Physical metallurgists monitor the behavior of metals under stress and fatigue, and write reports on mechanical test results. They also investigate accidents potentially caused by a metallurgical failure.
QMEX Process metallurgists design metal parts and control casting processes through which they're shaped. We have comprehensive expertise on Machining, Heat Treatment, Surface Treatments Soldering and Welding as well.
Minimizing waste
Our metallurgists are mainly focusing on realizing environmentally friendly casting projects to help design cleaner, and less wasteful processes.
Sustainable castings
Our metallurgists optimize and innovate new alloy compositions for pressure, heat and wear-resistant materials that withstand high-temperature corrosion with an extended operating life. Especially suitable for the hostile environments that are difficult to maintain, such as mining, dredging, and offshore sectors.
ECO-Design cast parts
We optimise metal product designs so that they become lighter, stronger and longer lifetime, requiring fewer resources to produce and less fuel consumption for the transport sectors, such as aerospace, automotive, marine, trucks, etc. resulting in low emissions and cost and energy saving.
The higher the quality of the recycled material, the more it can be reused, resulting in less new extraction.
In accordance with the great good of the circular economy, we take care of the entire process for you from refining of your revert material into high-quality alloys for the critical high-tech applications. Think of lowering:
● Cu and/or Sn content in steel alloys;
● Oxides, Nitrides and Sulphides in steel alloys;
● Oxides and nitrides in nickel and titanium alloys;
● Oxides in aluminum alloys.
Both copper (Cu) and tin (Sn) are generally characterized as impurities in the steel, as they both negatively affect the mechanical properties. For the mission-critical high-tech applications, especially for the aviation and medical sectors. It's therefore the primary requirement that these contaminants are preferably not or minimally exist. In addition, to increase the purity of the materials, we can also offer you custom-made alloys:
● Steel alloys with high strength and shock resistance;
● Aluminum casting alloys with increased thermal and electrical conductivity,
● And more...
We have a wide knowledge and experience in a wide range of heat treatments for aluminum, steel, and titanium and offer those as a part of our one-stop-shop services. Examples are carburizing/case hardening, nitriding, and age hardening or more complex ones consisting of a combination of heat treatments in order to reach tight tolerances or an optimal toughness.
We also can manipulate the chemical composition in order to avoid an expensive vacuum heat treatment, for example:
● Minimalizing the alpha-ferrite in austenitic stainless steels, making the solution annealing and quench obsolete;
● Minimalizing the perlite in ferritic cast irons, making the ferrite annealing unnecessary.
● Liquid penetrant testing (PT)
For the detection of open surface discontinuities.
● Magnetic particle testing (MT)
Capable of detecting of open surface and just below surface flaws.
● Radiographic testing (RT)
For the detection of internal voluminous flaws.
● Others, such as Visual testing (VT) and Ultrasonic testing (UT)
In our approach we look at the big picture when determining how and why a material or product failed. The primary goal is to identify the root cause of the failure, in order to prevent future occurrence, at which we use all our metallurgical expertise and techniques.
